After reviewing the map of proposed open routes in the Juniper Flats area, it appears obvious that the BLM used satalite images to develop this plan. It is full of flaws. Sensitive areas that were mulched after the Willow Fire are to be opened for destruction by the OHV crowd. Multiple and redundant routes of access are approved in other areas creating a maze of OHV trails.
I believe the current system of designated routes in the area provides great access for exploring our public lands. The "JF" road system connects with the USFS roads providing multiple options, including free access to the hotsprings. The OHV crowd believes it is their right to ride wherever they damn well please regardless of the damage inflicted that is irreversable. ORV areas already exist in the area at Johnson Valley and off 15 between Victorville and Barstow.
Juniper Flats needs protection. I would like to strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this short window of time and write letters to the BLM office in Moreno Valley.Off road vehicle use in an area already ravaged by fire is extremly poor management of our public lands. Please let your voices be heard before its too late.
