The rock crossing wouldn't have been an option last weekend and I would guess that the stream level is still to high to consider it. Also the beach area around the rock crossing was eroded quite a bit and I would imagine that the flooding last weekend may have taken away even more sand. Since this sand is gone the jump from the last rocks in the stream to shore is not the same since there is less beach and more water running through.
