Thank you for the information you gave from your recent trip to DCHS.
It doesn't sound that it was your day at the hot springs.
Don't worry, others, including myself have had those kind of days at DCHS.

In regards to chlorinating, I think it's best not to. I probably did the best at the time you were there,... draining the pool. Don't jeopordize the future of the hot springs by adding chlorination into any pool.

The large pool you speak of should be drained and left to air dry more often. Unfortunately, one cannot drain all of the water out it, because its inner architecture.

I want to voice an opinion of my own and understand it may not be shared by all, regarding the large pool. Some call it the 'Blue Pool' some call it the 'Palm Pool' some call it the 'Womb' and etc.......

My Opinion:
If the pools bottom were raised to where that so-called cave like area at the bottom of the pool were filled in with rock & sand, cleaning the pool would be far easier. That little cave area acts as an algae and 'whatever else' collector or trap and needs periodic siphoning. At present, one has to take a long hose and spend a considerable amount of time and effort when cleaning the pool.

To my way of thinking, the benefits far out weigh the non-benefits by raising the floor of the pool.
By raising the floor:
1) Draining, cleaning, and refilling the pool would be far quicker and easier.

2) The side of the pool at the present time is far too deep. The pools full potential is reduced, as no one is able to stand on that end of the pool.

3) In the cooler winter months of the year, the large pool is very susceptible to:
a.) the ambient air temperature.
b.) the coolness of surrounding rock.
c.) the volume of water in the pool.
d.) the amount of warm water admitted into the pool.
e.) the lack of direct sunlight.

All of the forementioned can and have affected the pools water temperature in the winter months.

It's just my opinion of the large upper pool.

Kevin Kim, as far as others coming to DCHS and not going by the local custom of DCHS, well that's there problem. DCHS is understood as a clothing optional enivronment, and if one wants to, or not want to, it's one's choice.

Lastly Kevin Kim,............ I'll have talk with those nasty biting insects near the Arizona Pool the next time I visit the springs. Someone must have pissed them off! I'll take of it.
