Exploration in the deep creek area is always an adventure. Many routes that appear passible become what are known as chutes that end with a sheer cliff. The steepness of the terrain combined with loose gravel on rock can be a recipe for disaster. Even an experienced hiker like Wizard uses caution in this area. Its really easy get into trouble, especialy if you are alone. I know 3 people who have been bitten by snakes while hiking in the area, every single one had to hike for help after being bitten. Years ago I twisted my ankle on the PCT above Devil's Hole. After 3 days of seeing nobody,I hobbled out to a road on a stick! Its wild, remote and I love it that way. Nowdays, I tell someone what direction I am heading just in case I dont come back. A suggested hike in the fall and winter is to the top of round mountain. At the top is a fantastic view and an old red can with a book to write in. Enjoy everyone, the fall, winter and spring are great for exploring!
