In my exploring during our hike yesterday I came across a full grown Tamerisk tree. I don't have any special skills in tree indenification but I would say that a Tamerisk is what I found. I have never seen a Tamerisk along Deep Creek in my travels. I was quite suprised. It is my understanding that these trees are not indigenous to So Cal and have become a problem in many areas. I am wondering how this tree got a start in the remote area I was. It was along a cliff in the stream bed and was looking rather brown, probably due to the drought conditions in the area. Perhaps a bird may have eaten a seed and deposited it along the stream many years ago. I am thinking I will check it out again before long and see if there are any young tamerisk trees around the one I found.
