Re: How are the Springs the Weekend?

Ahh, yes, I went to the springs and had a wonderful time. Saturday was especially nice because the people I talked to had great attitudes. One person was being bothered by someone who kept looking, so I started talking really loudly about how some people are so thick they don't get the hint even when you say to them directly that you don't want them around you. I could tell the "looker" was listening, and by the time I was done he had disappeared. Paul and I talked to most of the people who visited for the weekend and were very happy with the results. When we saw a need to speak about the etiquette suggestions of our group, as when we saw people with glass, our suggestions were well received by all except those locals who feel they have special rights. (But, I must point out that only a few locals seem to have this dysfunction, most of the local visitors were following good etiquette)
We were pleased to see that much of the rock-stacking had survived in our absence, and that there were a number of new stacks as well. I think the concept is catching on! Art for whoever is pleased to look at it, and done without damaging the environment.
The weather was cooling and windy. The pools were clear and inviting. The trees, though, were mostly in sad shape, and I doubt that the three near the anniversary pool will survive if they are even still alive. (The young trees that were planted I mean, not the ones we sit under) We found that someone had taken one of the tree stakes and broken it, and the highest tree has had some fire damage. The trash in the immediate area was limited to wax and cigarette butts, but there was more trash in the outlying areas. We took out one bag on Saturday and one on Sunday, plus we cleaned up some trash along the trail. One very nice newer visitor helped me water all the trees and we talked about our group as well.
Sunday evening came all too soon and we had to leave.
I spoke with one person who has been frequenting the springs for a long time and expressed the opinion that the place is actually much cleaner now than it was 10 or 15 years ago. That was encouraging. Do other long-time users agree?
