As for any perception as to the story's 'darkness,' the information I had collected on Deep Creek was mostly negative but my own experience was completely positive.
It discourages me when people automatically assume that I have an agenda regarding Deep Creek.
As I come from Montana, and am accustomed to localism, this attitude that a newspaper article is going to bring in the masses and spoil somebody's secret makes me shake my head and laugh. Living near public land doesn't make it any more yours than city folks'.
Without the federal government setting aside lands such as these, at the expense of taxpayers around the nation, I hardly think Deep Creek hot springs would be what it is today. It'd be just another commercial spa and peope would hardly feel free there.
