It's natural to feel sad over things changing, but you can also look at it as a beautiful thing. To see the forest regenerate and to see the land cleared of dead trees and underbrush can be fascinating. Unfortunately, as you guys have pointed out, the fires are so intense now that the effects are more devastating. But still it is a natural progression and a wonder of nature. Plus, the years after the fire usually bring the best wildflowers!
