We have to research the Federal laws, regulations, State Law and local ordinances.

Ask your friend under what crime you may have been arrested under? They would have had to had a crime in mind. This would be the best start.

The question is whether the Sheriff's were acting appropriately on Federal land. Where you were parked is on National Forest Land. Were they exceeding their authority? Call Ranger Burns and ask him who has jurisdiction? What are your rights on National Forest Land?

Were these sheriff's there to accompany Ranger Brad? Why were they in the area.

I agree totally with the concern about CPS. I have heard horror stories about them. Do not give them any opportunity.
