I finally had a chance to get back here after all the travelling lately. Regarding the name, I don't remember how I voted in my original post, but these are now my top 3:
Deep Creek Hot Springs Conservancy
Deep Creek Hot Springs Alliance
Deep Creek Hot Springs Preservation Group
For either your next meeting or the one after that, you may want to include the appropriate governmental representatives. Ultimately they will be the ones responsible for whether Deep Creek stays open to public access or not. Plus it's vitally important to include them for their input on what's allowable at Deep Creek as far as flyers and signage.
I think the flyers are a good idea. Personally handing them out at the springs is actually a very good idea. We'll have to work on the content of the flyers, but my suggested Hot Springs etiquette should probably be included, as well as some of the appropriate Forest Service rules and public access information.
Ultimately, it would nice if the Forest Service allowed a sign with similar info, maybe located at the sandy beach across the creek from the springs. It could have similar writing on both sides so people coming in from the long route from the Dam could also see it. As far as materials, a nice wooden sign would be the most aesthetic, but it probably would be thrashed by uncaring visitors. Maybe a nice metal one like the one on the Bowen Ranch trail, except bigger, may be the ticket.
Once Ron finally tallys up the votes for the name, I think we should move on to the Mission Statement and finalize that. Simultaneously, the flyer can be developed.
I think we should also have a unique logo for Deep Creek, For you artists out there, anyone want to tackle that. I developed a generic hot springs logo using Clip Art from Word -nothing fancy; just some circular swirls showing a symbolic heat symbol rising out of it and a kokopelli-type character getting ready to enter the spring.
Given my work committments, it's still hard for me to get to DCHS. But Black's Beach and San Onofre are going great guns! The nude surfing is awesome.
Let's all keep up the good work and continue to strive toward preserving DCHS for future generations...
