AZ Mike,
I thought a group had formed already too. There was meeting at the Springs where 2 or 3 of us discussed the group and its aims. Wiz and Ron and perhaps another person, and myself were there, although I was a little late.
I don't know what more we can do but spread the word about spreading the word to pick up trash. Volunteers already do much of the cleanup work. Calling another meeting doesn't seem appropriate. Neither does forming another group make much sense. Volunteers are doing the job already without the benefit of a formal group or meetings and without the need to tell them to do so.
I spent the 4th at the Springs. There really wasn't much of a trash problem, but I did pick up bits and pieces of stuff here and there, as did others, I noticed -- all without having been told. Most of the people were infrequent visitors or brand new to the Springs, yet helped with watering the trees and cleanup.
My take on this is that trash is not a critical problem. I've been going to the Springs for 3 seasons now and have never seen the place too bad. And if I do see trash, I simply pick it up. What a concept. I don't think we need meetings or a committee to accomplish this.
Yeh. Inconsiderate people are a bother. But what more can ya do but remind them to be responsible then follow behind to pick up what they didn't understand, then remind them again. Maybe some of them will never get it. That's ok. It gives the rest of us an opportunity to do a little more.
BTW, I went to nearly every person at the Springs on the 4th and asked "Does the name 'Kat's Nightmare' means anything to you?", hoping to find you there. Guess you didn't make it.
See ya next time.
