These groups of people who have been argueing over access issues are not likely to see eye to eye anytime soon. Our friend Ron who hasn't posted much lately had worked toward putting a group of concerned springers together for the purpose of helping out down at DCHS. It is however a difficult thing to get the various people together in and organized way when they come from long distances many times and they all have in many cases very differant time schedules and interest. I have enjoyed the spontaneous aspect of my visits to DCHS and do not want that to change. Any visitors are free to express thier opinions to the USFS or the forestry concerning thier concerns about access. No public person is in a position to alter that kind of policy. The argueing between us does not change the access policy. Everybody agrees that trash is a problem. The good people need to work together to help keep it clean down at the springs and pick up the trash and at times, explain to the offenders why leaving trash is degrading to the springs environment. That is if the offenders will listen. Its not worth getting in a fight over. Human waste is definitely a problem. Just go and look around just outside of the immediatly used areas around the springs and you will find lots of toilet paper. I always bring my toilet paper back with me. How do you get every visitor to be responsible in regards to human waste. Thats a real tuff problem. I don't think anyone really " prefers to see " a fixed toilet facility sitting on the hillside. Some people here want more USFS and sheriff involvement because of the various problems we are talking about. Others say if you get these people more involved it will be for the worst. I have always enjoyed the springs without permanent structures and without ranger or law enforcement running around all the time. If enough people can do things down there to help keep the above problems under a reasonable control then hopefully we won't see either of these two things for a long time to come. For myself, doing simple things like picking up trash when I can, breaking up a fire pit on occasion and talking to people in general about the well being of the springs is a way I can contribute to the cleanliness of the area. My other life priorities will not allow a more complex arrangement. So in the end a large group of people may very well be a difficult prospect to bring together but all who really care about DCHS can do little things like I discussed above and it will all add up to quite a bit of helpful things to the springs to keep them nice for others.
