Today is expected to be the hottest day in this heatwave.Death Valley set a new daily record yesterday at 125. You are right about this kind of heat being dangerous. The most hot part of the day is around 1-4 PM. When its this hot your body heats up no matter what amount of water you drink. You could drink all you could take but still die from the heat. Once you get into heat exhaustion it can be a short time to heat stroke. Your body loses its ability to cool itself and you become extremely weak and exhausted. In summer heat like this I only hike when the sun is very low in the sky, more important in the afternoons than the morning. We rescued a man last year at Deep Creek that due to his unwise choice of hiking in the heat and poor physical condition could have died if we had not been there to help him. Also the fire danger is very extreme so best to stay away from areas that could be affected by sudden fires.
