As I pulled up the hill to meet the new managers of the best place to park for dchs. Brett and Jessica are their names.Brett motioned me to stand over here because Mike had been shooting in this area. So, as we moved over Brett said "he had missed him by only a few feet the day before." "I told him I had filed 2 police complaints against him." He said "I know and they do not do anything." I knew right then I was talking to a smart man.
It turns out Brett has been in the area for many years and knows a lot of the same people as me. Brett and Jessica plan on making a 1st rate Camp ground, R/V area and parking lot. Complete with showers, picnic tables and a store. They already have building permits approved. Brett insist on giving out receipts for money. He allowed me to hike his property and see what he is doing. What he is doing is all good for future hot spring lovers. His place is beautiful, he is doing everything right as far as I can tell. I told him he is making me very happy with his plans. I want to help him make this work. As I hiked around I saw where he has built a fence that blocks off the Bowen ranch area for good. Also he has parked his tractor in the valley where a spring is just west of the parking area. He is going to do some thing wonderful there. He has a smooth road that snakes it's way in the bottom of the valley to the parking area. Which is the same parking area Mike used for years. This is now Brett's property. Brett also said they plan on putting in a well for a water source.
It was 11:30 when I got to the springs. It was mostly cloudy all day. High clouds made it feel slightly chilly. The creek crossing was bone chilling cold. There were about 25 persons having fun. As I sat on the beach someone called my name. It was a friend I have known for years. I did something I have not done in a decade. I got a morning beer buzz. Had to fix that with a good soaking.
The Phoenix pool was full of twenty somethings. The water level was lower than the week before. About 5 inches below where it usually flows out. The creek level was about 1 foot below the pool water. Nice HOT soaking ! No trash anywhere. The water still has it's blue green color.
The Anniversary pool was very clean and full of Asians. The water temp there was 2-3 degrees hotter than the Phoenix pool. Some one has been getting the debris out of this pool it was very clean.
When I got to the Womb pool it was full of teenagers and children. I guess the temp here was @ 100-102 degrees. it was clean and green.
The Serenity pool was where the grown ups were. The temp there was about 106-108 degrees. It felt great.
I wanted to get into the Crab Cooker pool but it was constantly full.
The Contemplation pool was too chilly to get into. It was The shortest day of the year !!!
Most folks came in through the Bradford ridge trail. Probably 50-60 persons all day. I told them I was very happy with their plans.I see a bright future for hot spring lovers there.
It seems to me that since Castro has been threatening to close down access to the springs to retire. That he would welcome these new care takers plans. I do. JUST my opinion.
