I did recently read an article about a dog getting poisoned and died after swimming in a Texas lake with toxic algae in it. I have also read that the fresh water reports of toxic algae are basically from around the Rockies, then on back east, and down toward the south eastern states. There have been a lot reports, especially this year of toxic algae blooms in ocean areas like Florida and along the east coast. There have always been some amounts of algae in places at Deep Creek. Some years there is more depending on the weather conditions, like less rain and higher air and water temps. I doubt the types of algae growing in Deep Creek are the toxic types. Me and my pooches have been dipping and swimming in Deep Creek multiple times this summer in areas where there is algae around and everything is fine with us. If someone really thinks the algae is toxic and has information that supports this they could contact the San Bernardino Forest Dept and inform them about this concern and maybe they would investigate the issue. You could also call the Big Bear Discovery Center and they could have some advice or info about this.
