Jobe has told me that the USFS Forestry boundary runs east/west right about through the middle of that parking area. I know years ago the USFS used to require an adventure pass for parking on those lands. The other side of the boundary is BLM and as far as I know you can park for 14 days in one place in those lands. The Freedom Trail parking area has had various sorts of vandalism to vehicles over the years. One time a car was broken into and rolled down the hill. Another time a vehicle was set on fire. The vandalism problems have tended to occur in the warmer months, like summer time. Since the Bowen Ranch is now closed for night time use, and is charging 10 dollars for entry more people are parking at the Freedom Trail spot and hiking to the springs from there. Jobe went in that way last weekend and said the road is getting pretty rough in spots from the rain and extra vehicles using it.
