A trip to Saline is not for the faint at heart! If you have not been to Saline Warm Springs before, please be aware that you need to be fully prepared and completely self sufficient. Always check the weather first before you go. Both the North Pass and South Pass roads close if the snow or rain damage the roads. Check road conditions at Saline Preservation Association or Death Vally Talk websites. Keep in mind that the government shutdown is still in effect so “official” road condition reports from the National Park Service are probably out of date.
As speakeasy mentioned, you definitely need high clearance 4 wheel drive to get there. I wouldn’t risk the roads in any all wheel drive sedans. If you go ,take extra
tires, an air compressor, a strong rope and winch, shovels, and some stiff boards to put under the wheels if you get stuck. Take enough supplies to last a week in case you get snowed in there and you can’t get out (it happens all the time!). Cell phone coverage is spotty or nonexistent so a satellite phone or emergency beacon is essential.
