I have hiked Deep Creek a lot for miles upstream and downstream from DCHS. Crossing the creek in higher water is difficult and even precarious depending on the conditions and the spot you are trying to cross. Fortunately, the crossing from the beach to the hot pools, at the shallow area I mentioned in a previous comment here is one of the few best places to do so. If you wade in the right spots you are walking on a sandy bottom which provides good footing, and the current in higher water is spread out and moderated by the layout of the creek bed at the springs. I once did a hike to DCHS after huge floods and the Anniversary Pool, the highest one at the springs was about eight feet under the raging stream. You can still see the scoured out benches in the dirt bank areas above it. These kinds of large floods on the bright side bring lots of fresh new sand down the canyon, and provide a great cleaning for the stream bed smiling smiley There are some pics of big flooding at the springs below at the link, Wizard's pictures.
