I cannot believe that people are actually concerned that, with a new, completely legal access trail to the spring that does not go through Mike Castro's toll road, riff raff will actually enter the springs! In my short time visiting the springs, I have seen so many rowdy teenagers down there, drinking out of glass bottles and polluting the area with litter. Where did they all come from? The Bowen Ranch! Maybe Mike does screen some people (although it's hard to picture him turning away a fee), but he clearly is the main access point for all the inconsiderate people who visit the springs. The J3 trail is completely legal. There should be no argument here or blame cast that the trail is letting in riff raff. There's no legal responsibility on anyone. As others have pointed out, it's public land, and everyone has a right to access it in any legal way they see fit. These arguments that Naked Man and others are making are so weak that I'm almost wondering what their motivation is. It's certainly not rational.
