Hi Wizard,

I just read Rick's post about the winter storm warning, and it seems probable that on Fridaythe Bradford Ridge hike will be at worst a little dusted with snow (I'll pack accordingly), but what about the drive to the Bradford Ridge trailhead on Highway 173?

I'll be driving a sedan, and I'm guessing (haven't googlemapped it yet) that I'll need to drive past Big Bear to get there (coming from Pasadena). Anybody know if there are likely to be "chains required" zones on my drive there? Or know where online I should check? Would hate to drive a few hours out to Big Bear, only to have CHP turn me around for lack of 4WD and chains while going up those switchbacks on the climb up to Big Bear.

EDIT: just googlemapped it. Looks like I have two options: go up highway 18 (where all the switchbacks on the climb to Lake Arrowhead are -- doesn't CHP often require chains here when in wintery conditions?) or the Cajon Pass on I-15 to Highway 138 to Highway 173. Anybody know if that second option is better, and less likely to be blocked off by CHP?

Thanks!

Joel
