I don't think banning alcohol is the right approach. Besides, it could not be enforced. Friendly (HOPEFULLY!) persuasion is the only real tool that I can see, short of hiring security. Even a heavy presence of rangers, if the forestry would do that, would be a mixed blessing and a damper on fun. Besides, assholes with no respect for the environment or other people are assholes with or without alcohol, they just get more belligerent about it when they're drunk, and predators often operate sober.
I have witnessed the successful use of friendly persuasion a number of times at DCHS. It is most successful when a number of people agree that the behavior in question is not to be endured, and when they plan their approach.
My suggested solution would be to agree on which behaviors are intolerable first, then to agree on how to deal with them. That's a lot of agreement and much harder than calling each other names and complaining, but it also gets a lot more done. I'm new to this forum and fairly new to the springs, but have lots of experience dealing with assholes in other places through friendly persuasion after group agreement, both preplanned and spontaneous. It works.
