Years ago I was on an old Eastern Airlines flight between Springfield Missouri and Charleston South Carolina. We were flying through major thundrstorms. At one point we hit a downdraft and the plane dropped instantly what seemed like several hundred feet. Some folks didn't have their seat belts on and actually were lifted off their seats and hit their heads on the overhead console. The lady sitting next to me freaked out and dug her long fingernails into my arm causing me to bleed pretty profusely. At the same she was screaming at the top of her lungs "We're all gonna die!!!!". Not a fun flight, but we landed safely. I didn't fly for 10 years after that, but finally took an Adult Ed class on how to overcome fear of flying and that got me over my phobia.
