Apparently for overnight camping treks < 12 lbs of equipment falls into the minimalist category and < 20 lbs into the ultralight category. We just did an 18 mile overnight hike in Tahoe and wanted to see how light we could go and still be very comfortable. Two people. I carried everything below except for an additional 2 liters of water and 3 dried food packets, carried by my girlfriend. We only took the clothes on our backs and refilled water along the trail. The trail had outhouses so we didn't take paper or a shovel. Total weight of all the stuff you see is just shy of 4 lbs, mostly attributed to the lightest tent/sleeping bag on market though. Contents from left to right:

1. Rechargeable solar panel
2. Lots of sunscreen, 1/4 of that bottle would have been sufficient, overdid it but I like spray vs. squeeze
3. Satellite transceiver
4. Hi-Def Camcorder
5. Trail snack
6. Platypus water pouch
7. Forks, knife, napkins, compact toothbrushes, etc.
8. Water filter
9. Connectors/cable for electronics
10. First aid kit
11. Small white towel
12. Pain medicine
13. Flashlight
14. Wash towel (under flashlight)
15. Hand sanitizer
16. Bandana
17. 2 person tent - it weights in at 1.15 lbs inclusive of rain/wind cover, which we left behind so that cut the weight to under 1 lb
18. Sleeping bag, which we slept on top of due to warm weather
