SAN BERNARDINO CA-
1202 PM PDT SAT JUL 5 2014

...A FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 130 PM PDT FOR SOUTH
CENTRAL SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY...

AT 1148 AM PDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO
INDICATE FLASH FLOOD PRODUCING THUNDERSTORMS 10 MILES NORTHEAST OF
BIG BEAR LAKE AND NEAR JOHNSON VALLEY. THE THUNDERSTORMS WERE
DRIFTING SLOWLY NORTH.

CALTRANS REPORTS HIGHWAY 247 HAS BEEN WASHED OUT AND IS CURRENTLY
CLOSED AT RECHE ROAD NORTH OF YUCCA VALLEY.

RADAR HAS INDICATED A DECREASE IN THE INTENSITY OF THE RAIN OVER THE
SAN BERNARDINO MOUNTAINS...BUT AN INCREASE FARTHER NORTH TOWARD
JOHNSON VALLEY. OVER TWO INCHES OF RAIN MAY HAVE FALLEN IN SOME
SPOTS SO HEAVY RUNOFF WILL LIKELY CONTINUE THROUGH 130 PM PDT IN
THESE AREAS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE
ROADWAY. THE WATER DEPTH MAY BE TOO GREAT TO ALLOW YOUR CAR TO CROSS
SAFELY. MOVE TO HIGHER GROUND.

MOST FLOOD DEATHS OCCUR IN AUTOMOBILES. NEVER DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE INTO
AREAS WHERE THE WATER COVERS THE ROADWAY. FLOOD WATERS ARE USUALLY
DEEPER THAN THEY APPEAR. JUST ONE FOOT OF FLOWING WATER IS POWERFUL
ENOUGH TO SWEEP VEHICLES OFF THE ROAD. WHEN ENCOUNTERING FLOODED
ROADS MAKE THE SMART CHOICE...TURN AROUND...DONT DROWN.
