Listening to one's favorite road trip music on the way to and from Deep Creek Hot Springs is definitely cool. Bringing a loud music device to play at high, or any volume at the hot springs is just not neighborly. The music of the springs is the sound of the water and anything else is a distraction. Decades ago a couple of stoned-out guys brought a monster boom box down the goat trail to the hot springs. I was soaking in the hot water with naked friends when the stoners showed up at the creek shore about to cross the waist high stream. We, in the hot pool, were bombarded by the blast of sound as the dudes/Doods began to cross. We watched as the Doods, music at full blast, made it to mid stream. As one, we soakers prayed to the nature gods to save us, and just then, the lead bozo slipped on a under stream rock and the boom box sank to the bottom, never to play again. Thank you, Mother Nature, we all silently thought, and the creek gurgled on.
