In mid-May 2011 I had a wonderful day at the springs. I didn't want to leave, so I planned to hike out by the full moon. Great plan, but a storm for which I was completely unprepared blew in. The thick, low scudding clouds made it way dark, and I stupidly didn't even have a flashlight with me. It was too dangerous to hike out in the dark, so I "slept" all night in the Womb and hiked out at first light in light rain/snow. That was the last time I hiked to the springs with only my Tiva's - the wet sand stuck under the straps of the sandals and sandpapered my feet all the way to Bowen. It was 40 deg at the car, I was freezing under my wet towel, my feet were bloody, my skin dried out and itchy, and I was exhausted from my fitful sleeping in the Womb.
Two weeks later I was back. I love this place!
