I think danger is relative and depends on how you manage it. My family gives me a hard time sometimes because I ride a motorcycle for leisure and "should know better" especially that I work in medicine. However what they do not realize is that although it is true that statistics work against riders, there is one exception. I have one of those bikes that makes my neighbor's house shake when powered up, and we always ride in a group, and I'm in my 30s. These three factors make these types of riders actually have a much, much lower injury and death rate than that of automobile drivers, also given that you can hear us from a mile away. In fact one of the folks I ride with is a younger physician who has seen his fair share of injuries while working the ER years earlier.
