If you want to read an excellent book about the trials and tribulations and joys of hiking the PCT, pick up Cheryl Strayed's book Wild. Highly recommended! Also, for another excellent read, Bill Bryson's A Walk in The Woods about his hike on the Applachian Trail is downright funny.
