This is a easier way to explain getting to the Freedom trail head :
From L.A. go north on the 15 Frwy thru the Cajon pass to Bear Valley Rd. Turn Right and go east for about 10 miles. At the light on Central Rd. turn Right. Go about 2 miles to Railroad tracks and then a hill. Once you are over the steep hill there is Ocotillo Way a paved Rd. Turn left and go east for about 2 miles the road changes into dirt. Go another 1/2 mile to Bowen ranch road and turn right. It is 7 miles on this dirt road when you get to the sign that says permission to pass ...
Turn right just before that sign. Every time you see a left turn take it 3 (three) times the 3rd left go 1/2 mile and you will see a parking area just as you crest a hill. DO NOT go past this parking area without high clearance and a good off road driver.
The trail starts on the south side of this parking area near some large boulders. It is 1.2 miles to the springs but still 900 feet change in elevation. ENJOY !
See how easy that is ;~)
