Over there at one point we heard a woman scream 'bear', two gun shots and then my friend yelling 'oh god' in the tent next to us. The gun shots were rangers who happened to be in the area firing rubber bullets to scare it off.
Reminds me of a bear/bare encounter several years ago in Yosemite. I had a new girlfriend and took her camping there. It was a warm full moon summer night, so we wandered away from our campsite off into the nearby pines with a blanket. As we spread it out, tok off our clothes, and laid down and started to have sex, all of sudden this bear appeared out of nowhere and was checking us out! You have never seen two people get dressed any faster! I had to keep her from running a full sprint away. We sauntered away, I looked back, and he was just sniffing around where we were.
Later that night, the same bear almost completedly ripped off a pop top camper shell off of a Nissan pickup truck a few tent sites from us. The nimrod owner had a fully exposed cooler in the back, but the bear didn't get in.
