Re: Bowen Tollgate on County Road

I am not sure why I am even going to get into this discussion but I would like some clarification, so here goes.

Could you please clarify the year that is at the top right corner of the first map, beside the stamp of the County of San Bernardino? Is that 1853?

It appears that the road you refer to on this map is represented by the simple doted line that is on the www.deepcreekhotsprings.org/leastresistancemap.html map. The road from the Bowen Ranch building to the parking lot is represented on this second map by the double doted line that starts off south and then changes to South southwest.

You can further verify this is you go to the MapQwest.com web site and follow the Bowen Road to where it ends at the Ranch. You can then switch to the Arial Photo tab and can see that the actual earth road to the parking lot follows the double dotted line on your map. You can even zoom in to the point you can see about four cars at the parking lot. It appears to be directly south of the point where the JF4 road on your second map cruves slightly from West to West Southwest. Unfortunately this is not on your first map, so it is hard to tell on which side of the boundary is the parking lot, but it appears to be significantly to the right of the red circle you drew in the first map.

I think the first map shows a very old road that now no longer exists or is little more than a trail, but that is just my opinion.
