DCR, I understand your perspective in trying to keep parts of the Mission Statement short, I honestly believe it should be short and concise and eminently readable, but the reason I suggested something like "coordinating and cooperating with our local private and public partnerships to ensure access to DCHS remains open for existing and future generations" is because the future of Deep Creek hinges on actions taken by a variety of governmental agencies, not just the Forest Service. The Bureau of Land Managment is a significant governmental player that will have a lot to say about public access. The Environmental Protection Agency will also be heavily involved because of the Wild And Scenic Rivers designation for Deep Creek as well as the endangered species issues related to the arroyo toad. And there will even be involvement by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's office notwithstanding the corruption allegations that Katrina has mentioned and that have been in the newspaper. So my point is this -many agencies will be involved; we shouldn't single out one in the Mission Statement, but we should try to be broadbased and all inclusive.
Ron, I like your idea of goals. They could be a corollary to the Mission Statement. We could probably all come up with objectives, strategies, and/or actions for the preservation of Deep Creek.
