What follows is a statement, personal opinion and mini rant. As someone who works in our (broken) healthcare industry and working very hard along with many others on trying to undo the mess we are in (not to mention that we are arguably the only civilized country that doesn't offer consistent quality healthcare to its citizens and worse, profits from it), I find it interesting that some "legal" drugs like alcohol result in more deaths than other "illegal" ones like weed. Actually, I'm not aware of any direct case of death due to weed, but are aware that about 37,000 people annually die due to alcohol use and healthcare costs for alcohol users are about 8 times that of weed-related cases. There is one overriding factor about alcohol though, it's a viable revenue stream for the government. Money overrides everything in our society, including people's well being and health. Illegal vs. legal does not necessarily mean it's to the benefit of society, but more likely who profits from it.
