When we went, the 405 southbound where it meets the 5 was a parking lot all the way past Carlsbad. The GPS (good old technology again) recognized the heavy traffic early and attempted to reroute us along the PCH near Dana Point, which was another parking lot. There didn't appear to be any accidents, just heavy volume. It took about 4 hours with a pit stop for food. We didn't take the 73 toll road, maybe should have. On the way back, we were flying and so was everyone else. If I recall correctly we left at the dirt lot at 6:32 and got to near LAX at about 7:40ish. I had to pinch myself to believe it was real. Next time will either drive at night or very early in the morning.
