Thanks Jacky for answering the post. Of course I wouldn't mind showing you the way. I think it is a good time to go. Even later in the year, when it is hotter it is a good time; it is just important to arrive early in the morning to avoid hiking down close to noon, it can be brutal even on the way down under the full noon sun. Some people like to camp out at night at the Bowen Ranch and hike down before or just when the sun is rising. Personally, I cannot tolerate the hot water at the hot pools and direct sunline, I have to wait untile there is shade early in the morning or late in the afternoon to enjoy it.
Even when it is too hot, there is tree shade available and the creek water is cold (unless the water level is too low). I was there on June 23rd, and the water level was lower than in May. So I think the water level will be too low after July. Still enjoyable, but will be dirtier and warmer.
If this is your first hiking experience, you can probably make it ok; just need to take it easy and avoid hiking at noon. take plenty of water and I'll be more than happy to guide you to get there, even if I don't ride with you. But of course I want to go again this year! I bet there are plenty of users on this forum that can send you all kinds of directions to make sure you don't get lost either. Toyota, Matrix...hmm. I've seen low cars make it. It will probably be ok, as long as it doesn't have one of those fancy low to the ground spoilers at the front bumper. Does it have 14" wheels? that would help.
