I was there Sunday, and saw all the tags. you only see a few on the way down and a bunch more on the way up. It really makes it hard to have a mellow hike when just as you start to enjoy the walk you see another tag, and feel like strangleing someone.
I've been down 3 times in the last 2 months. At first I was hopping to feel the same mellow vibe as there was in the '70s. I finally realized it ain't gonna happen. The first time I went in april there was a whole family camped there for spring break. A whole bunch of loud kids doing cannon balls and hogging the pools, not real relaxing. And that was on a Thursday. Yesterday it was a trip when a big family group showed up with one of the adults carrying a full sized ice chest. One of the others had a, get this, BOOM BOX! They set up camp at the edge of the sand beach and cranked the TECHNO for everyone to (gulp) enjoy. They were talking about having a camp fire or BBQ, but I left before getting to see that.
I've gone during the week and during the weekend, and I suppose I've see the best it's gonna be. On my way out yesterday I was feeling like it's not really worth the extra wear and tear on my vehicle, but then I decided the entertainment value of watching people do goofy things may be worth the trip.
