Let me start out by saying, what a fantastic weekend. I arrived earlier than the group meet-up but met a great naturist couple who were there for the first time. I showed them the way down to the creek pointing out the landmarks so they could make their way out when they wanted. We set up next to some other friends under the trees next to the big rock and kept a watch out for the group members as they showed up to greet them and show the way to their spot. They had a really good showing. It was nice talking with naturists from all over the area, a few first timers and some who hadn't been there in over a decade.
Temps from the area on Saturday:
Upper creek above Arizona pool: 76.5
Arizona: 110.2 Anniversary: 109.9 Womb: 102.6
Serenity: 106.8 Crab Cooker: 114.2
The main source was coming out at 117.6
Creek at the crossing: 78.6 and just under 2' at the deepest.
It was interesting how the beach area turned to be predominately naturist and all the textiles were at the landing area and hung out mostly around the rope swing.
Later in the eve the group called it a day, the day visitors went on their way and the overnighters all congregated in our little camp site. We ended up with 7 campers and a small group who visited for awhile, leaving just before the gate closed at 10.
It was a great evening with food, talk and many laughs. One member had a cool fire drum to keep our fire very contained, just enough to let us cook dinner without danger of sparks flying away.
The next morning, after a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, we said our goodbyes to some of the Camping Bares who had to leave out. We made our way back to the creek, enjoy swimming in the cool of the deeper pools upstream. It was around 3:30 when we made it back to the hot springs area to find the place was inundated with textiles. A gentleman had caught a California King snake and brought it around to show to people before returning it to it’s freedom. After a short stay at the creek, we hiked back to our cars, taking another bag of left over garbage off the beach. So between Saturday when Pan and Joe took away close to 80lbs of garbage, and our three bags over two days we were able to make a sizeable dent on the standing garbage piles around the springs. When will people learn to take out what they bring.
While hiking in the area both Sat and Sun, I assessed the full range of damage done by that fire two weeks ago. From some vantage points it appears to be about 20 acres, but when we got to some of the valleys in there, you can tell where the water drops were made with some areas untouched by fire, and others that were totally decimated. And to think, these 30+ acres of burned area was caused by one ‘campfire’ on the ranch area, probably an older, unwatched, improperly extinguished fire left behind when the visitors left. It was sad to see so much area completely stripped of life.
Departing was, as usual, saddening… no one wanted to leave, but we all knew the weekend must end and normal life started encroaching on our bliss. We left out for our homes after hugs and handshakes and promises to meet again soon… but hopefully with more campers from the groups. All in all, a great weekend.
