They apparently went in and out from the dam along the PCT, not Bowen Ranch. There is a beach at 1:13 that I do not recognize but it has been twenty years since I was at the springs. Is that beach near the springs?

Sam, they DEFINITELY came down from Bowen Ranch. You can clearly see them on the trail in the beginning. And that beach is DEFINITELY across from the springs. It's been there forever. I suggest you re-visit the springs and renew your acquaintance with the landscape. (And yes, we all know Jobe is "spelling-challenged", but we always accept him for who he is- probably the most frequent visitor to the springs, and he also cleans up the pools etc)
