Mdskibum, regarding this you wrote " The dirt section of rt 173 from west of trail head to dam in Hesperia, OTOH, is bad & best avoided ", thats the dirt section of HWY 173 that is closed, being gated down at the dam and just west of the Bradford Ridge trail head.
