That path is known by the locals as Hunter's camp. I used to park my motorcycle there before the fire of '99. The Gate was removed the year before the fire but was there many years before that.
That is actually on BLM land. Barry Nelson ( the chief law enforcement officer of the time) told me if he saw me there and the gate was down he would ticket me. But if I kept the gate up he would not bother. He is no long in the area, I hope. He used to enjoy talking like that. I would just tell him how GLAD I was that I had tall boots on as it was getting very deep.
I all ways have kept that gate shut even when I am not using that place. I still park there when the spirit MOVES me. Last time I parked there I rescued a 300 + pd woman who was having problems with her ankles. It is the easiest place to access the springs for people like her.
