...MUCH COOLER AND WINDY CONDITIONS WITH POTENTIAL LOW SNOW LEVELS
FOR TUESDAY INTO TUESDAY NIGHT...

A COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DEVELOPING IN THE GULF OF ALASKA IS
EXPECTED TO TRACK SOUTHEASTWARD OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS...MOVING INTO INTERIOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA BY
TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THIS SYSTEM WILL LIKELY BRING DRASTIC
CHANGES TO SOUTHLAND WEATHER. AFTER RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES
RECORDED TODAY...AND ANOTHER WARM DAY EXPECTED ON
MONDAY...TEMPERATURES WILL FALL RAPIDLY ON TUESDAY. MOST AREAS WILL
RETURN TO WINTER-LIKE TEMPERATURES...WITH HIGHS ONLY RISING INTO THE
50S ACROSS MUCH OF THE DISTRICT. THIS SYSTEM WILL ALSO PACK STRONG
WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING...SHIFTING
TO A MORE NORTHERLY DIRECTION OVERNIGHT. A HIGH WIND WARNINGS HAVE
ALREADY BEEN POSTED FOR PORTIONS OF THE MOUNTAINS AND
DESERTS...WHERE DAMAGING WIND GUSTS OVER 60 MPH WILL LIKELY OCCUR.
AS WE DRAW CLOSER TO THE EVENT...WIND ADVISORIES WILL LIKELY BE
POSTED FOR MANY OTHER PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA. WIND GUSTS
OF 40 TO 50 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE FOR SOME COASTAL AND VALLEY AREAS.

AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS THIS COLD WINTER SYSTEM WILL HAVE AN INLAND
TRACK WHICH WILL LIMIT ITS AVAILABLE MOISTURE. AS A RESULT...THE MAIN
THREAT OF SHOWERS WILL BE ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS.
SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO LOWER RAPIDLY TUESDAY AFTERNOON INTO
TUESDAY NIGHT. IN FACT...SNOW SHOWERS WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS
INTERSTATE 5 NEAR THE GRAPEVINE BY LATE TUESDAY AFTERNOON...WITH
THE THREAT CONTINUING INTO TUESDAY NIGHT. THERE IS THE POTENTIAL
FOR SNOW LEVELS TO FALL AS LOW AS 2500 FEET ON TUESDAY NIGHT. IF
SUFFICIENT MOISTURE EXISTS...THERE WOULD BE THE POSSIBILITY OF SNOW
SHOWERS TUESDAY NIGHT ACROSS INTERSTATE 14 THROUGH SOLEDAD
CANYON...AS WELL AS PORTIONS OF THE ANTELOPE VALLEY. DUE TO THE
VERY COLD AIR MASS EXPECTED TO SETTLE OVER THE SOUTHLAND...THERE
WILL ALSO BE THE POTENTIAL FOR ICY ROADS IN THE MOUNTAINS TUESDAY
NIGHT...AS WELL AS FROST IN COLDER WIND PROTECTED COASTAL AND
VALLEY AREAS.

RESIDENTS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA ARE URGED TO STAY TUNED TO THE
LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS REGARDING
THIS DEVELOPING WEATHER SITUATION. ANYONE PLANNING TRAVEL INTO THE
MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS ON TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT SHOULD PREPARE
FOR RAPIDLY CHANGING WEATHER...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR WINTER WEATHER
DRIVING CONDITIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY.
