Just came back from the springs. It was a late start for me so I came down at around 2:15 PM spending good 1.5 hrs picking up trash along the way.
The temperature on the trail was 99.2F. I climbed everywhere I could to get to the trash. The hillsides are still littered with trash in places I could not get.
Calling on all alpinists...
I double bagged the bag somebody hanged on the wooden gate as the bottom of it got torn and all the crap was laying around. I took it to the
lower parking lot so please take it if you park there. I am afraid coyotes might tear it again, so please bring some large plastic bags just in case.
There were around 30 people at the pick - 98% textile. I saw a nude hiker on the way down and on the way up. A very calm and nice crowd though I wish
they wore less clothes.
Moderator, please remove this paragraph if you feel it can jeopardize the springs.
I am beginning to suspect that the water in the creek is giving a major case of diarrhea/shits. I am not exaggerating when I say I bagged at least 30 lbs of TP and gave VIP burial to 200 turds.
The entire area up the creek was littered. In 16 years of my visiting I've never seen it so bad. It all accumulated in about 1 week - I did not see much TP during my last visit and I picked up most of it.
OK, kids, here's how you do it. I am going to spell it out for you in case you have not figured it out already.
When you need to go #2 you dig a hole far from the water. Do your deed in there. Place all the TP there too and then pile a bunch of dirt and rocks.
It's not that complicated.
I collected 2.5 large bags of trash. Each bag is probably 50 lbs or so. I left both of on the beach. Hiking and collecting in the scorching heat for 5 hrs completely drained me + I had a smaller bag
hidden half way with all the crap from the hillsides. Please carry the bags I left out before coyotes get to them.
At around 6:30 ish a sheriff helicopter flew and dropped a rescue guy. It turned out that a girl laying on a blanket on the Bowen Ranch side beach needed help.
Nobody knew what was wrong with her, so our opinions split into two theories.
1) She got heat stroke as the second dropped paramedic administered an IV. 2) She injured her back and could not move.
The paramedics were elusive in their answer. Somebody was taking pictures so perhaps he can post them here.
As mentioned above, a second paramedic with a harness was dropped after 30 min. Both administered an IV, then tied the girl to the harness and the helicopter lifted the girl and took her
somewhere. Then it came twice to pick up the rescuers. The beach area is swept clean now so all the dreck flew further down the creek.
I forgot again my candle wax brush. The walls of the Womb are covered with candle wax. I am writing this sentence so may be I read it before I come next time.
I saw a flyer about a black Labrador that got lost on 7/19/2011. If you found it, please let us know on this forum. I suspect coyotes or mountain lions took care of it.
I forgot to write down the phone number from the flyer. Could you please PM that number to me. The poster was attached to the wooden gate which is broken by the way again.
While picking up trash I saw a guy on a small motorcycle going down the trail. I did not see him near the springs though.
As I was leaving more people came to camp (25-30).
