...WET WEEKEND EXPECTED ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES...

AN UNUSUALLY STRONG LATE SEASON STORM IS BEGINNING TO DEVELOP OFF THE
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST THIS AFTERNOON...AND IS EXPECTED TO
SPIN OFF THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA COAST OVERNIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY.
THIS SYSTEM HAS AN UNUSUALLY HIGH AMOUNT OF AVAILABLE MOISTURE FOR
THIS TIME OF YEAR. IN ADDITION...THERE WILL BE DEEP SOUTHERLY FLOW
THAT WILL PROVIDE OROGRAPHIC ENHANCEMENT OF RAINFALL ACROSS THE
COASTAL SLOPES OF SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY.

RAIN IS EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY OVERNIGHT...WITH
PERIODS OF RAIN CONTINUING ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA
BARBARA COUNTIES THROUGH THE WEEKEND. SOME OF THIS RAINFALL COULD
BE HEAVY AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY FOR SAN LUIS OBISPO AND WESTERN
SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES. DUE TO THE NEARLY STATIONARY NATURE OF
THIS CUTOFF LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM...THERE IS EXPECTED TO BE VERY
LITTLE EASTWARD PROGRESSION OF THE RAIN BAND...SO ANY CHANCE OF
PRECIPITATION FOR VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES WILL NOT OCCUR
UNTIL LATE SUNDAY.

THERE IS EXPECTED TO BE A VERY LARGE PRECIPITATION GRADIENT WITH
THIS STORM. AT THIS TIME...SAN LUIS OBISPO IS EXPECTED TO RECEIVE
THE BRUNT OF THIS STORM...WITH RAINFALL AMOUNTS GENERALLY BETWEEN
ONE AND THREE INCHES ACROSS LOWER ELEVATIONS THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT.
HOWEVER...THE FOOTHILLS AND COASTAL SLOPES OF NORTHWEST SAN LUIS
OBISPO COUNTY ARE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE BETWEEN THREE AND FIVE
INCHES. RAINFALL RATES COULD EXCEED ONE THIRD OF AN INCH PER HOUR
AT TIMES ON SATURDAY ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY...BRINGING THE
POTENTIAL FOR URBAN AN SMALL STREAM FLOODING CONCERNS.

ACROSS SANTA BARBARA COUNTY...AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE
BETWEEN ONE TENTH AND ONE INCH...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS ACROSS
WESTERN PORTIONS. AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS THAT VENTURA AND LOS
ANGELES COUNTIES WILL SEE LITTLE OR NO RAINFALL WITH THIS SYSTEM.
DUE TO THE ERRATIC NATURE OF CUTOFF LOW SYSTEMS...IT MUST BE
EMPHASIZED THAT A SLIGHT CHANGE IN POSITIONING COULD LEAD TO
DRASTICALLY DIFFERENT RAINFALL DISTRIBUTIONS.

DUE TO THE SOUTHERLY FLOW ASSOCIATED WITH THIS STORM...SNOW LEVELS
ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN WELL ABOVE 7000 FEET. AS A RESULT...THE
LOCAL RESORTS ARE NOT EXPECTED TO RECEIVE ANY SNOWFALL WITH THIS
SYSTEM. THE STRONGEST SOUTHERLY WINDS WITH THIS SYSTEM WILL ALSO BE
FOCUSED ACROSS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES...WITH GUSTS
GENERALLY BETWEEN 25 AND 35 MPH ACROSS COASTAL AND VALLEY LOCATIONS...AND
LOCAL GUSTS OVER 40 MPH IN THE MOUNTAINS.

THIS STORM WILL LIKELY BRING UNUSALLY HIGH RAINFALL TO AREAS NORTH OF
POINT CONCEPTION FOR A JUNE STORM...WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR RECORD
RAINFALL AT SOME LOCATIONS. RESIDENTS OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA ARE URGED
TO STAY TUNED TO THE LATEST NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS
AS THIS LATE SEASON STORM UNFOLDS.
