Wizard,
Good work with Ranger Brad and the USFS. Over the past two weeks I have hiked in from JF3 but using alternative routes. If they insist in dismantling the trail a useage trail will develop over time. I honestly think it is a pity for them to do so. While hiking just cross country between the trailhead and the springs I picked up all sorts of trash. If there is a clear trail at least the trash people leave remains close to the trail and is easier for volunters to pick up. I am all for them keeping these roads open so that people have alternate routes of access. However some of the 4Wheelers that use this trail do trash it as I evidenced by the amount of trash I found just a few feet from the road on JF3 between the lower and upper parking areas.
However if the USFS is determined to erase the trail, I think that your willingness to work with them on this project is great and shows a great attitude. Thanks again for taking the time to share this information with us.
