I do not think you will have any problems with your camping. Unless you plan on camping right at the hot springs you will have a great time. However in the last 35 years I have noticed people staying (probably camping) right at the beach area all night whenever weather is permitting. Especially when the moon is out. I really appreciate hiking out to the springs from the 173-bridge day or night, it is great exercise. I have some great friends who are USDA guards; they do not go out of their way to give citations unless some one is blatantly doing some thing that will endanger the environment or the forest. Probably you will not receive a campfire permit. My suggestion would be to find a wash area to camp. With a minimum of effort you could level out the area enough for sleeping and because of the sand it would be easy to clean up thus leaving no trace of an overnight stay. It has always worked well for me. You might run into a coyote or two, they normally pose no problems unless their howling from a recent catch bothers you. Just be prepared for sudden weather changes. It can go from a really warm beautiful day to cloudy drizzle in just four hours. Have fun.
