Rescued: Several stranded in fast-moving water

Rescuers spent most of Monday night and Tuesday morning rescuing stranded motorists and transients from rain-swollen streets and usually dry riverbeds.
“We were getting out of there ourselves this morning,” said Shannon Watson, a homeless woman who frequents the river bottom near D and Seventh Street. “There were some people that were stranded on a little island and they had to bring in the helicopter to get them off the island.”
