Hi! I went in via North pass and left via South Pass.
North Pass was fine for any SUV/truck but has more sharp rocks than I remember ever. It took me 2.2 hrs to get in. It's a miracle I did not get any tires punctured.
South pass is open for any high clearance vehicles but very rough. There is a section or two of the road where you have to go 2 miles per hour. There is also very nasty washboard. I regretted many times that I left that way - I was trying to go to the opposite side of thunderstorms. It took me one hour longer to leave via South pass. I mean from Olancha to Saline Valley HS - it took me 3.5 hours total via North Pass.
From SVHS to Olancha I drove for 4.5 hrs via South Pass.
On the way out, I got into a dust storm with near zero visibility and wind gusts up to 60mph.
I had to move few feet at a time between the gusts.
Amongst regulars I only saw one guy from Hungary. Lee was there but nobody else I knew though few folks recognized me from other springs I go to.
All the pools are spectacular.
Lee needs a 32' extendable ladder (each section must be 16 feet) . I donated few bucks for him but a
good ladder like this costs $400+.
Best,
Sam D.
