When I talked to Brad Burns the main Forestry enforcement Ranger for the DCHS area he did express concerns about the increased visitation down there. I would think that the Forestry Dept would appreciate any help from us that does not conflict with thier agenda for the area. It seems like to me that there is only one clean up day a year down there. I would be nice if there were more. Also, in the summer sometimes quite a bit of trash is left during a weekend. I've thought that it would be nice if there could be an out of the way place to set full trashbags near the trail out with maybe a small sign expressing that if everyone takes a little bit out with them then there would be alot less cases of someone caring big heavy bags full of trash out. It would be nice too if there could be some arrangement that there was a bin at the Forestry parking lot for people to leave the trash. Just hiking it to that point would be a great help. Then maybe the Forestry could pull a trailer down to that bin from time to time to empty it. The Bin could be something real simple like four 4x8 plywood sheets stood up on end and hooked together so they stand up. A trash bin this big holds alot. We use them to put trash in all the time in the construction process of new homes. Just ways that might help people want to become more involved with the trash cleanup down there. Also I think it would be a help to have a couple signs at the Forestry parking lot that discussed things that negatively effect the springs, how people can help, and why doing these things will help to keep DCHS open to all of us long into the future. Just a couple of ideas that are very doable and might be a help.
