Well Rick, once again the reader of this story is misdirected by lies, half truths and B.S. First they fail to say where this little girl was swimming. Second they said only one person in the U.S. died last year. I suppose they forgot about the case of the teenager in lake Havisu, Arizona who died from this amoeba last year, which was reported here. Statistics are always misleading depending on the point of view of the reporter. Then they say the Loxahatchee river is brackish water, perhaps it has changed since I swam there in the 80,s. The other rivers mentioned come from the ground at 60-65 degrees, too cold for the tropical amoebas. What we really need to fear are the illegal aliens and tourist from the tropics who bring these diseases with them. Anyone who is afraid of this amoeba should hold their breath and wait for lightning to strike them.
Stories like this undermine the journalistic integrity of all reporters every where. Just my opinion :~)
