I recommend going on a weekday, if at all possible. Get there early in the morning, too. That's a fairly reliable way of avoiding most of the riff-raff. Also, not that this helps with your immediate trip, but go there sometime October through March, and you'll find the springs to be a lot cleaner, and to have even less chance of riff-raff ruining it.
